Ukkirapandiyan Thiruvavathara Padalam (உக்கிரபாண்டியன் திரு அவதாரப் படலம்)
"Ukkirapandiyan Thiruvavathara Padalam" is the 11th chapter in the Thiruvilaiyadal Puranam.
This chapter translates to "The Chapter of the Divine Incarnation/Birth of Ukkirapandiyan." It marks a major milestone in the Madurai Kaandam, chronicling the birth of the divine child born to Lord Somasundarar and Goddess Meenakshi.
The Story
1. The Reign of Queen Meenakshi
Following her glorious coronation and her victory tour across the cosmos, Queen Meenakshi ruled the kingdom of Madurai with absolute justice, compassion, and divine grace. Soon after her celestial marriage to Lord Somasundarar (Shiva), the divine couple decided to bless the world with an heir—a powerful ruler who would uphold righteousness and protect the kingdom.
2. The Divine Conception
Goddess Meenakshi conceived, and her pregnancy was no ordinary mortal gestation. It was filled with divine radiance, and the entire city of Madurai rejoiced, sensing that a great protector of the world was about to take birth.
3. The Birth of the Prince
At the auspicious hour, the Queen gave birth to a magnificent baby boy. The child possessed an extraordinary luster, divine marks, and an innate aura of unmatched courage and majesty. Because he was born with a fierce, powerful energy destined to crush unrighteousness, he was named Ukkiran (Ukkira Pandiyan / Ukkira Kumaran).
4. Celebrations in Madurai
The birth of the divine prince sent waves of ecstatic celebration throughout Madurai. Lord Somasundarar and Goddess Meenakshi joyfully oversaw the naming and early upbringing of the prince. The citizens danced in the streets, and celestial beings rained flowers from the heavens, celebrating the continuation of the sacred Pandya royal line born directly from the Divine.
